Choices in Sustainability
Deerfield Valley Transit Association - Wilmington, VT

The Deerfield Valley Transit Association (DVTA) is a non-profit corporation providing public transit services to southern Vermont. An existing building was demolished on their site in Wilmington to make way for the construction of a new, super insulated building.

Sited near the banks of the Deerfield river, the building houses office space, bus maintenance and washing facilities for the MOOver transit system. The building exterior follows in the Vermont agricultural building tradition and functions as a visual anchor for the end of the village.

Utility and durability were high priorities for the project. Windows, cupolas and dormers provide extensive daylighting to both the office and maintenance wings. Barn boards salvaged from the site were repurposed as wainscoting in the office wing.
