The Village Metting House desired to renovate and expand the Waitsfield United Church of Christ facility to meet the long-term needs of the residents of the Mad River Valley. The Village Meeting House / Waitsfield United Church of Christ along with Maclay Architects identified some critical building needs, including flood proofing, life safety improvements, ADA / accessibility improvements, energy performance improvements and modernization of community spaces and the community kitchen.

The renovation of the building includes stabilizing and flood proofing the basement, and all mechanical and electrical system components have been removed from the basement. A new, more efficient mechanical system has been located above the 100-year flood plain. This, in addition to the other critical building needs, was accomplished by removing non-historic additions at the back of the building, and extending the single, unified gabled addition. The lower floor community spaces and existing back wing were reconfigured to better suit the current and future needs of the Village Meeting House. Insulation was added to existing and new walls, improving energy performance and occupant comfort of these regularly used community spaces.
