After completing the Field House, the Putney School enlisted Maclay Architects to help look at strategies for reducing energy consumption campus wide and to develop a strategic energy masterplan. Students, faculty and staff played an important role in early stages and continually throughout the process. The school has established a long term goal of becoming net zero campus wide.

Campus Facility and Land Use Master Planning Services:

•Assessment of current and future (10 year) school educational and residential space requirements
•Campus infrastructure survey assessing current and future (10 year) school needs (potable water, wastewater, road network, car parking, bus parking, bike lanes, etc.)
•Campus agricultural, forestry management, landscaping, recreational surveys assessing current and future (10 and 20 year) school needs
•Identification of code and life safety issues throughout existing campus facilities.
•Social, economic, educational and environmental assessment of ideal school size (smaller-bigger-the same)

 Overall Campus Energy Master Planning Services:

•Involvement of students through the strategies and implementation of energy analysis and amelioration
•Review and analysis of existing energy usage (overall and for each building)
•Program review of existing buildings
•Building envelope recommendations, 3 levels of improvement
•Heating, lighting, and ventilation system recommendations
•Development and analysis of 3 future energy scenarios
•Development of overall campus energy strategy
•Development of a "sustainable facilities guideline" that can be used to address deferred maintenance on existing buildings and provide energy performance goals for future projects.
•Development of a preventative maintenance program
•Cost estimates for all recommendations
•Provide a financial sensitivity tool that allows the school to model the financial effects of various social, educational and operational inputs as identified above.
