Vermont Technical College renovated the historic Judd Hall to function as both a conference space and gymnasium. Renovations to the building included improved building envelope, updated interiors with a focus on sustainable material selection and improved natural daylighting. Upgrades were also made to the HVAC systems, acoustics and audio-visual equipment. The Maclay Architects multi-level energy analysis allowed VTC to incorporate a very high level of energy performance, which significantly exceeded project expectations and stayed within budget on this historic building.
During the design process, a careful balance was sought between creating an energized and updated conference center, while maintaining the use of the facility for intramural sports. The high-recycled content carpet selected for the project improves acoustics in the space and functions as the basketball floor with all associated markings.
