Monkton Residence

Set at the north edge of a meadow in a cedar grove, the residence was designed to connect the owners and their family to a unique piece of land. Gardens surround the home to create outdoor places and paths. The plan orients living spaces to the south toward distant views, sun and breeze. A central living volume is flanked by timber trusses that extend through the heart of the house to support the main roof and second floor.

Hybrid timber frame design allows for a super insulated double wall assembly. Two solar electric trackers provide electricity while solar hot water panels provide energy to domestic hot water and radiant heating. A wood pellet boiler supplements remaining heat and hot water demands. Energy recovery ventilation keeps fresh air in the house during the heating season.
