Sherborn, MA - high-efficiency cooling system

We were asked to design a house for a family on a pristine pond in Sherborn, MA. Our goal was to design a wonderful place for them that nestled into the landscape while allowing all inside rooms to connect to the outside. Despite a steep, hilly site, the home is fully accessible for one family member with disabilities. Total accessibility is provided by an elevator, lift, totally flush thresholds on interior and exterior doors and a "house brain" to simplify operation. Other significant energy conservation measures, such as super-insulated walls, ultra high performance windows, a ventilation system which recovers heat, and a high-efficiency cooling system were incorporated to maximize comfort and decrease operational costs. Careful site work was required to preserve the site and to comply with rigorous conservation, health, and zoning requirements.

Interior spaces were designed to bring the serenity and calm of a scenic pond into the home. A gently curving ceiling, hidden lighting, and cherry and birch hardwoods evoke a peaceful, warm, and reflective mood.
