Katie graduated Cum Laude in 2013 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Communications and, while working full-time, completed her Master's degree in Public Administration (MPA) in 2018.

She has a decade of experience with administrative work and has volunteered within her local arts community. Katie has also had the honor of working overseas with Upendo Mmoja, a Tanzanian non-profit focused on building families and sustainability. Outside of work and research, she also owns and runs a small farm on a mission towards self-sustainability.
