Design Challenge

The Jackson Lands are a 300+ acre parcel land in Cornwall, VT, donated to Middlebury College. The college was seeking to develop a long-range vision for the property.

Approach

Maclay Architects developed the Master Vision along with Landscape Architecture firm Andropogon Associates. Through the process of determining what the extraordinary land offers through ecological mapping, we developed a document to guide the stewards of the land long into the future.

Outcome

The outcome framed an approach and guidelines to how the land might be developed, used, and managed. This long range Master Vision outlines options and considerations for selective development of the property in a manner that is sensitive to the extraordinary environmental and ecological attributes of the land. This includes, but not limited to view sheds, flora and fauna, ponds, and wetlands.
