Design Challenge

The setting for this new home featured a diverse landscape, including a large meadow, a cedar tree grove, and wetlands. The client wanted to create a retreat for generations of family, with a new home and horse farm.

Approach & Outcome

A central living room and hearth is flanked by timber trusses that support the main roof and second floor as part of a hybrid timber frame assembly that allowed for a super-insulated high-performance walls.  Gardens and terraces are sculpted into the transition between house and meadow to create wandering and gathering areas to enjoy the site. A wood pellet boiler, solar trackers solar domestic hot water provide the power needs for the home.
